A place
to gather.

A kitchen replanned around one generous island, honest materials and everyday storage.

White kitchen with a marble island, timber-clad base, hexagonal tile splashback and timber bar stools

The kitchen is where a home’s day begins and ends, so it has to work before it looks good.

We started with how the household actually cooks: where the knives live, how many people stand at the counter, where the coffee is made at 7 a.m. The plan that came out of those answers is simple — a single generous island with seating on one side and a timber-clad base, a clear work triangle, and tall storage that takes the clutter off the worktops.

Materials were chosen to age well: a honed marble top, hexagonal tile that gives the splashback rhythm, white shaker joinery softened with leather pulls, and warm timber stools.

DESIGN DECISIONS

What shaped the design.

  • One generous island. Seating on one side, work on the other.
  • Clear work zones. Prep, cooking and cleaning sit close, with landing space.
  • Storage that clears counters. Tall and deep storage takes clutter off worktops.
  • Honest materials. Honed marble, hex tile, timber and leather pulls.

The kitchen opens onto a living space much like Composed light.
